Chinese is the most spoken language in the world, with more than 1.2 billion native speakers, mainly in China, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Singapore. This includes both Mandarin and Cantonese. In addition, 178 million people speak Chinese as a second language.

Hindi is the second most spoken language, mainly in India and Fiji. However, it is estimated that over 900 million people have a significant knowledge of the language.

Spanish comes third, with native speakers, in South America: Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Panama, Belize, and also Spain, Andorra, Gibraltar, and the United States. According to the latest estimates, over 100 million people also speak it as a second language.

English, as a first language, is spoken by 341 million people. This comprises the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore, Bermuda, and a few other countries. English is the most widely spoken second language, with over 870 million people using it worldwide.

Arabic is spoken in most of the Middle East, as well as parts of Africa: Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Iraq, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Syria, Tunisia, Libya, Lebanon, Jordan, Mauritania, Palestinian Territories, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, and Somalia.

Portuguese is mostly spoken in Brazil and Portugal and by more than 20 million people as a second language.

Bengali is spoken through parts of India, and in Bangladesh.

Russian is spoken by over 160 million people in countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Georgia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Turkmenistan. Moreover, Russian is the second language of about 110 million people.

Japanese is spoken by over 125 million people, and is the only language to be spoken in only one country: Japan. An estimate of 2 million people speak Japanese as a second language.

German is spoken in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. This amounts to about 100 million people.

Dave Matthews Band

Dave Matthews Band, DMB, is touring! Yep, that's right! His tour starts in April. Generally, he is a summer performer, so I have a feeling that his tour length will be lasting longer than May. Nonetheless, he is coming! Hip-hip-hooray! I know I'll be there (given that prices are affordable).

Now, there are many factors that make this specific 2009 tour date special. The reasons why are as the following:

• He is playing in his hometown, Charlottesville, VA, for two days - April 17th and 18th.
• The band recently experience the death of their founding saxophonist, LeRoi Moore, earlier this year, and this will be their first tour without him.
• DMB will be realeasing a new album, which is still nameless, on April the 14th (the start of their tours). So I'm sure they will be playing many of their songs from this new album on tour.
• DMB is awesome!

I have a feeling the concert series in Charlottesville may be pricy because DMB announced that they are doing a John Paul Jones iniciative in which a lot of the proceeds benefit the Charlottesville Music Resource Center in honor of LeRoi Moore (who lived and died in Charlottesville (but he attended school at James Madison University - Go Dukes!!)).

Foxy Lady

So, I did it.  I finally did it....

I did karaoke!

I went out last night with one of my good friends, and somehow I managed to get myself up on the stage to sing.  Now, for me, this is big.  I don't sing in public.  I mean, I would sing with close friends; no biggie.  But, yesterday, I just didn't care.  To be honest, I still can't believe I did it!!!

Now, I sung a song from Jimi Hendrix - Foxy Lady.  

Sure, Jimi Hendrix is awesome, but most of my appeal to this some comes from Garth's dance moves in Wayne's World.

Do you remember the fun slumber parties you had when you were younger?  You know the ones where you would talk about the craziest little things and stay up past your "bedtime." 

 

Well, my roommate, Lauren, & I have these "slumber parties" all the time.  So much so that Lauren decided we should name it 'cuz we come up with the goofiest things.  She first came up with the idea of "Pillow Talk," not realizing what that would imply...whoops!  With that in mind, we had to come up with a more appropriate name.  The new & improved name is "The Cool Side of the Pillow."  

However, I'll still remember her first idea.  So, when I saw this shop in CA, I just had to stop for a photo.  Go figure, ay?
